New Song: From My Dream To Your Ear

As promised….here it is….the song I dreamed several weeks ago. It was a long and interesting process to take what I heard in my dream and make it a song in waking life. I’m thankful for it. This song is about loving something or someone so much that you could drown in your love for it. At some point you have to learn how to show that love in a way that allows you to live and continue to love. There is no title for this one yet—I’d love to hear any ideas for titles and any ideas about what the song means to you.

And I’ll be playing this one live for the first time at my show at The Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on September 12th at 7:15pm! OK, here it is, I hope you like it…

there is something that i need to say to you
and it may be hard to hear it, but it is the truth
so i need you now to listen and to take it in
you gotta trust me, you need this

i know you’re feeling tired and you can’t stop crying
and i know you barely make it and you push so hard
and you’re falling to your knees, you’re fading fast
and i need your strength to last

i know you’re doing this
out of a love
so deep its infinite

but you’re forgetting
to see yourself
you’re only human

with a love so deep
you can slip beneath
or you can let it hold you up

i know you’re feeling tired and you can’t stop fighting
and i know you barely make it and you push so hard
and you’re falling to your knees, you’re fading fast
and i need your strength to last

i know you’d give it all for what you believe
and when you close your eyes at night you see me
so remember when you’re feeling all alone
i’ll be waiting when you come home

Wow, how cool is it that we get to hear a song from one of your dreams, and that people get to hear this at the same time I do? That is a first, and I think it is very cool your doing this.
And the song, well, The new song sounds great! It has a very unique feel from your other songs I think, maybe something to do with the fact that it started as a dream… And I love how even with the deeper, heavy lyrics, the music has a light and upbeat vibe to it! I think it’s going to be one of my new favorites.
It’s nice for those of us that don’t get to go to your shows.
Maybe it should be called ‘waking life’ since it seems to kind of be about getting real and managing so you won’t lose the things important to you like some great dream you don’t remember much cause you didn’t record it or write it down…

My goodness! The music is just flowing out of you! I like this song a lot!!! I’m planning on coming on the 12th too (straight after Rondo library stuff, so I shouldn’t miss too much!).

Laura, your lyrics are so powerful and your voice is lovely. I felt a deep purity in this song and some pain too. My favorite part was the bridge because of the chords you used and the lyrics (I love the way you sing “beneath”:
    “with a love so deep
    you can slip beneath
or you can let it hold you up”
For a song title I would call it, “A Love So Deep”
Thanks for sharing it with us…

What exquisite lyrics and melody, Laura. To have a love so deep that it’s infinite is such a profound feeling. I have a few thoughts on titles: 1) since the song seems to be a reminder to someone on many levels…I like “A Reminder”; 2) “Only Human”; 3) “Infinite Love”. Maybe those are corny :)….I don’t know! Thanks for sharing this-I love it.
